I’m the Chair for Fly Fishing Women of Minnesota, 2021 will be my 5th year on our board. My goal is for our club to provide member education, increase our club’s visibility, community engagement, sustain growth and enhance our club member’s camaraderie. This year COVID-19 definitely put a damper on clinics & socials. Our club is very active in providing events for our members. We have helped many women over the years learn how to fly fish. Being Chair I’m responsible for board operations of our club and providing learning content to our membership. This year’s challenge of COVID-19, we still provided learning opportunities for club members, I coordinated 2-outdoor clinics focusing on casting, entomology & knots. And Zoom presentations from professional women in the fly fishing industry.
FFI Women Connect Board Member and Communication Chair my responsibility is organization & technology, improving our boards efficiency in communications & documentation. I am the social media administrator having created our social media platform giving FFiWC more visibility & promoting Women Connect and increase Women FFI Membership. And working on our 2021 FFiWC Rendezvous to Minnesota’s Driftless.
I am training to be a FFI Certified Casting Instructor. By participating in an online class with Jonathan Walter and currently enrolled in Mary Ann Dozer’s CI Training Program. Countless hours of casting practice and training in person with mentor CI Marlene Huston. And we both have recently passed the FFI Bronze Level Casting Award.
Founder & owner of FFWOMAN LLC, Fly Fishing Education, event coordinator bringing together Women owned businesses, fly fishing clubs, Educators and Organizations by connecting women in fly fishing. Mary Ann Dozer was a late bloomer to fly fishing but instantaneously became an avid angler on a trip to Yellowstone Park in 1995. This high energy passionate fly fishing woman has worked hard to bring her love of fishing to women and men throughout the United States. She guides for the Fly Fisher’s Place in Sisters, Oregon. She guides on several rivers and lakes in Central Oregon.
Mary Ann loves introducing new anglers to fly fishing or take anglers’ skills to that next level, via casting lesson, a day in a classroom, or a day on the water. Mary Ann considers fly casting an art form. She is adept at combining her responsibilities as a guide and teacher of our sport. She is known for her enthusiasm and teaching skills.
She is one of less than 300 FFI Master Casting Instructors in the World. She is on the Fly Fishers International Casting Board of Governors and is a Winston Rods Pro Staff Member.
Mary Ann believes in giving back to motivate others to pursue their interest in fly fishing for the Fly Fishers International at the local, state & national level. She also volunteered with Casting for Recovery for 15 years.
Mary Ann has always had a long-term vision for interactive on-line fly fishing education. She has used this COVID timeframe to build skills and invest in audio/visual equipment to dynamically and professionally present to clubs and offer virtual on-line fly fishing classes and casting lessons.
When not fishing or volunteering, you will find Mary Ann perfecting her cast or toying with the craft of building bamboo rods or nets.
She and her husband, Dave Dozer, live in Sisters, Oregon.
Guiding Style: Teacher. “I am a teacher who makes learning to fly fish fun, knowing that our purpose on the water is to catch fish! I think it is a guide’s responsibility to take their guests’ skills and knowledge to the next level so that the next time they fish, something they learned from me will result in a great cast, and a great fish.” Accolades from Mary Ann’s guests and students include: “positive,” “outgoing,” “fun,” “patient,” “builds confidence,” and “a natural teacher.”
